Ok, you have finished up the Glow. Now head back over to the Brotherhood of Steel.
Once you arrive there talk to Cabbot again. Tell him that you
have the stuff and he will disappear for a second and then come
back and ask you for the proof. Now is where you give him the
disk that you found on the dead power armored guy in the Glow on
the first level. If you happened to have dumped it you are
screwed and have to go back and find it. Otherwise, once you
agree to Cabbot's request he will open up the door for you.
When you are walking around in the
Brotherhood make sure not to have your weapons in your main
inventory slot as it modifies the reactions of the people there
negatively towards you.
Level 1
Once you get to level one, you will need to
head over to the right. There you will see a training room
with a man in power armor and a bunch of other people in combat
armor. The man in the power armor is Talus. You will
need to talk to him if you want to acquire some power armor.
There are other ways to get power armor that I will tell you about,
but this is the easiest. That is provided you have a high
enough karma rating, I'm not sure what the exact number is on that,
I have heard that it is above fifteen, but don't take that as the
absolute. Suffice it to say you need to have done some good
things before you get there. One of the things that you
should have done was to help out the Brotherhood Initiate in the Hub. If you didn't do that you will need
to head back there and take care of it. If you have the high
karma and have saved the Initiate you will be offered the power
armor by Talus. I suggest you take it rather than the other
weapons that he offers you as there is no where else in the game
that someone will give you power armor and you can get all the
weapons in other places or from other people. He also set
you up with some basic stuff like ammo and a suit of Brotherhood
combat armor if you ask him. You need to talk to Brother
Michael outside the door at the table to get that stuff.
After you get the power armor you should hang
around the training hall and watch Brother Thomas train the
Initiates. You will gain about five points in the Unarmed
Combat and Melee Weapons skills as well as get 500 XP. You
need to watch for a few minutes as he conducts his training session
for this to occur.
Level 2
Once this is all done you can head down to
level 2, take the elevator at the opposite side of the level from
the training room. Head out of the elevator area and take a
left and go to the Brotherhood doctor. In addition to healing
you for free the doctor can also perform operations to improve any
of your stats except Luck and Charisma (guess he didn't find any
plastic surgery books in his research, kind of hard to believe
since they are in California). The disadvantage to the
operations is they cost a lot of money and worse they take a lot of
time to be done. Check over your options some are worth
doing if you have the cash, if you are in a hurry to finish and
don't want the bad Hub ending obviously don't bother with these.
The only other minor point of interest might be Jerry your
roomate up in the upper right hand corner, he is amusing, but
basically useless. Head down to level 3.
Level 3
Level 3 has some interesting things to do on
it. You should first go talk to Vree and Sophia in the
library that is right in front of you as you come off the
elevator. All the people in the library look the same for the
most part and Vree tends to walk around so look around the room if
you don't see her right away. When you talk to Sophia you
can basically get a holodisk about the Brotherhood's history from
her and not much else.
Talk to Vree and you can get her to train you
in how to use the holodisks in your player, if you claim ignorance
in how to use them, this gives your Science skill a boost. If
your intelligence (or speech skill I suppose) is high enough you
will get a dialogue option to ask Vree about what is causing all
the mutations (i.e. Mutants). She will tell you about the
reason she thinks everything will work out with the mutants and if
you press her for more information she will give you proof of her
point. This information is needed if you want to talk the
Master to death at the end of the game. If you don't have
this information you will either have to blow up the bomb or kill
the Master in combat (endings will be explained in more detail
later).
Once you are done with Vree head over to the
lower right side of the level and check out the work room where
there is some disassembled power armor lying on a table. If
you talk to the Knight behind the table he will tell you that you
need a systolic motivator to make the armor work and he will also
tell you where you can get one of those. If your speech skill
(and probably Charisma) is high enough you can go to Michael and
bluff him into giving you the part through dialogue.
Otherwise you will need to get it from Rhombus, we skipped over him
on the first level, because he is boring and until this point
pretty useless. He won't give you the part, but you can steal
it out of his locker if your sneak skill is high enough.
Rhombus has the part in a locker in his back room. If you
manage to get into Rhombus' back room on the first level (you need
to do this at night when he is not in the front room) and manage to
open the locker, quickly throw the part into a bag or
backpack. This insures when he throws you out that you keep
the part, of course you have to convince him that you made an
honest mistake in coming into his room (Charisma and Speech skill
again) obviously save the game before you attempt this.
There is also another way to get the part out
of the room if your sneak skill is not up to par (quick note: it is
harder to sneak with NPC's following you). When you go into
the back room you can grab the part out of the locker and before
Rhombus comes around the corner, enter combat mode. Then just
stroll out the door and back outside and exit combat mode. I
have been told this works, but I don't remember if I actually tried
it or not.
Once you get the part through whatever
method, you need to go back to level 3 and start to work on the
armor. If your repair skill is not high enough (I think above
65 or so, not sure exactly) then you won't be able to repair the
armor, head over to the Hub and buy some books from the lady behind
the General Store if this is the case. Once you repair the
armor you will have two suits, one of which you can sell for gobs
of dough if you need it. Head down to level 4 as we are done
here.
Level 4
Talk to General Maxson in the room in front
of you on level 4. He will give you the low down on the
problems they are having, you can offer to help him and he will
also give you some more weaponry if you ask for it. Head to
the north room where the Elders are convened and you will get
basically the same mission from them that you got from
Maxson. Other than exploring the conversations with Maxon and
Mathia there isn't much else to do on this level and in fact not
much else to do in the Brotherhood.
Miscellaneous
Some people that enjoy killing all the people
in the Brotherhood can't get into their big supply room because the
guys inside cause you to go into combat mode when you approach the
door and you need to unlock the door before you can get in.
You can't use the lockpick skill in combat mode, but you can use
the electronic lockpicks in combat mode to unlock the door.
Problem solved.
I think that is pretty much it for the
Brotherhood.
